The Power of Surrender: Insights from A Course in Miracles
In A Course in Miracles (ACIM), surrender is not about giving up or submitting to external forces. Rather, it is the conscious act of letting go of the ego's grip on our lives and aligning ourselves with the divine will of Love and peace. Here's what ACIM teaches about surrender:
1. Surrender to the Higher Self
Surrender is about relinquishing control to your Higher Self, or the part of you that is always connected to Source. The ego thrives on fear, control, and separation, but surrender invites you to trust that the universe, or Divine Love, is guiding you in the direction of peace and purpose.
Tarot Tip: Always place yourself in a state of surrender before laying the cards out for a reading.
2. Letting Go of the Ego
The ego wants to maintain its sense of control, clinging to its judgments, fears, and desires. Surrender means releasing these attachments, recognising that the ego's perception is distorted and cannot lead you to true happiness. Itâs about allowing the ego to dissolve, so that your true nature, rooted in Love and unity, can emerge.
Tarot Tip: Pay attention to the ego grasping or showing signs of aversion to certain cards, especially any card signalling a possible outcome. Are you clinging to an expected outcome rather than trusting that everything is happening for you?
3. Trust in Divine Timing
When we surrender, we trust that everything happens according to divine timing, rather than forcing or controlling outcomes. ACIM encourages us to move from a state of fear-based action to one of trusting in the flow of life, knowing that what is meant for us will come at the right time.
Tarot Tip: If you trust in divine timing, you can still read on timing in the Tarot, as long as you know that the future is not set in stone and that even reading on timing affects timing (!).
4. Acceptance of the Present Moment
Surrender is not about resisting or struggling with life as it is. Itâs about accepting the present moment, no matter how challenging, and recognising it as an opportunity for growth and healing. ACIM teaches that peace comes from accepting the now, knowing that we are always supported by divine Love.
Tarot Tip: Pull a card that can act as a mirror for what you are resisting if you are struggling with accepting the present moment. Be honest with yourself and hand it over to God-Source.
Example: Yesterday, after lunch, I was trying to force myself to work and I started feeling increasingly irritated and sad. Not surprising since I had been hard at it since 6 AM and it had been a long week. I was tired but repressing my bodyâs signals because I have strong workaholic tendencies. When I asked the Tarot what I was not accepting, guess what card I got! You guessed it⌠the 10 of Wands. It made me feel verrry seen by the universe. The cards donât lie and the message was clear: I must not resist the need to put those wands down to rest and gather my strength.
5. Releasing the Need for Judgment
Surrender also means letting go of the need to judge ourselves or others. ACIM reminds us that judgment is the egoâs way of reinforcing separation, while love is the way of connection and unity. By surrendering judgment, we open ourselves to healing and transformation.
Tarot Tip: When you find yourself judging someone, ask the Tarot, âWhat is this judgment a mirror for within myself?â
6. A Shift in Perception
Surrender brings a shift from fear to love, from separation to unity. When we let go of the need to control, we make space for miraclesânew ways of seeing the world, others, and ourselves. Surrender allows us to experience life through the lens of love and forgiveness.
Tarot Tip: When you feel tempted to go into victim mode or blame someone else for how you feel, ask the Tarot, âHow could surrender shift my perspective?â You could meditate with The Hanged Man for an answer, pull a card, or why not do both?
7. Surrender as a Daily Practice
Surrender is not a one-time event; it is a continuous practice of letting go of the ego's desires and tuning into divine guidance. ACIM teaches that every moment is an opportunity to surrender, re-align, and experience the peace of the present.
As you can see above, I have provided plenty of tips for how to use the Tarot as part of your daily practice to surrender, let go and let God-Source. Let me know if you have any other Tarot tips for surrenderâShare in the comments and donât forget to like this post if you found it helpful!
Surrender and Divine Guidance
When we surrender, we donât lose controlâwe simply stop resisting the divine flow that is always available to us. A Course in Miracles reminds us that true surrender opens the gateway to inner wisdom, allowing us to receive guidance from a source beyond the egoâs limitations.
But how do we deepen our connection to this higher wisdom? How do we attune ourselves to divine messages and trust what we receive?
This is where the concept of Nousâthe higher mind that connects us to divine intelligenceâcomes in. The Gnostics understood that true knowledge isnât something we acquire externally; itâs something we awaken to when we quiet the ego and tune in to the voice of Spirit.
In my latest blog post, Angels, the Nous, and Divine Guidance: Gnostic Secrets Revealed, I explore how we can cultivate this connection, work with angels for higher guidance, and use Tarot as a tool for receiving messages from the divine. Avoiding Guidance Overwhelm: Knowing When Itâs Time to Act
Receiving divine guidance is a giftâbut if weâre not careful, it can become overwhelming. When we surrender to higher wisdom, we may find ourselves flooded with signs, synchronicities, and messages from angels, Tarot, runes, and intuition. While this guidance is invaluable, it can also lead to Guidance Overwhelmâa state where we keep seeking more signs instead of taking action.
What is Guidance Overwhelm?
Guidance Overwhelm happens when we get stuck in a cycle of asking for more and more clarity, waiting for the âperfectâ confirmation before making a move. Instead of using guidance as a catalyst for action, we become paralysed by it, unsure if weâre interpreting the messages correctly or if we need one more sign before we commit.
This is where Raidho, the rune of movement and lifeâs journey, comes in. When Raidho appears, itâs a clear signal that the time for seeking is over, and the time for action has arrived. Divine guidance isnât meant to keep us trapped in endless reflectionâitâs meant to align us with the flow of life and propel us forward.
In my latest post, I explore the meaning and symbolism of Raidho, how to use it for success, and why this rune reminds us to trust the path and take inspired action. If youâve been feeling stuck in Guidance Overwhelm, Raidho is here to help you break free.

Finding Stability: When Tradition Lights the Way
Sometimes, even after surrendering to divine guidance and recognising that itâs time to act, hesitation still lingers. Doubt creeps in. What if we make the wrong choice? What if we step forward only to stumble?
When uncertainty arises, one of the best ways to move forward is by leaning on tried and tested methodsâstructures that have stood the test of time. Creating order in our lives through discipline, study, and established wisdom helps ground us so we donât get lost in the endless search for new signs.
This is where The Hierophant comes in. As the guardian of tradition, sacred knowledge, and spiritual mentorship, The Hierophant reminds us that sometimes the next step isnât about reinventing the wheelâitâs about aligning with teachings that have guided seekers for generations. Whether itâs through working with a trusted teacher, following a structured practice, or honouring spiritual traditions that resonate with us, The Hierophant helps us build a solid foundation for growth.
In my latest post on TheTarotHive.com, I dive deep into The Hierophantâs meaning, symbolism, and how to work with this archetype for wisdom, structure, and spiritual evolution. I also dive deep into love and relationship card meanings. Did you know that The Hierophant can indicate a deepening of commitment in a love relationship?
